Eating Disorder Awareness Week 2021

Dear blog readers,

Welcome to Eating Disorders Awareness Week!

This week we acknowledge, recognize, and honour the struggles and successes in the journey of having an ED. The theme for 2021 is “What happened while we waited?” We are listening to and exploring the voices of people waiting to access care, who have accessed care, and all of us who are living through this pandemic. All across Canada there are virtual events, social media conversations, and our own sharing of stories on our blog. The fact that you are reading this means that you have taken a step towards healing. Wherever you are in your journey, however you are affected by EDs, we welcome you into the conversation.

To quote NEDIC, “Building on the “Eating Disorders Can’t Afford to Wait” theme, this year’s EDAW committee decided to go with: “What happened while we waited?” as the primary message for 2021. We believe that this is a way for us to talk about all of the nuances of this time — the negative and positive implications of the pandemic — while also holding space for those who have been waiting for a long time for the care they deserve.”

We cannot guarantee that all of these spaces and events follow the guidelines that we use to keep Sheena’s Place, and this blog safe. They will be brave spaces.
