Meet Alyssa

Alyssa Peters is a passionate advocate for eating disorders. She is also a runner who enjoys baking. She first learned about Sheena’s Place five years ago, through a friend who was attending our groups. Since then, she’s been a dedicated supporter of Sheena’s Place. In 2023 alone, she raised more than $2,000 by selling homemade baked goods and participating in a half-marathon.

“I love running, so by pairing it with fundraising, it has a better purpose and it becomes even more fun,” says Alyssa. “I’ve been doing bake sales at work to help raise money. People like my baking, so this gives me an opportunity to get creative, have fun, and raise money for a good cause.”

For Alyssa, Sheena’s Place’s commitment to keeping services free and accessible inspires her to stay involved. “Sheena’s Place is a great charity that offers lots of free support to those in need,” she says. “There are online groups that help with accessibility for people who may not be able to attend the in-person groups.”

As Alyssa understands that Sheena’s Place relies solely on donations to fund our programs, she feels driven to contribute through her fundraising projects.

I do it so that Sheena’s Place can continue to offer their programs,” she says. “Sheena’s Place helps people who are struggling cope feel less alone. It may be the only help some people have access to.
